Professional House Painting Services in Paekakariki
Paekakariki sits on a narrow strip of coastal plain, squeezed in between the Tasman Sea and the Akatarawa Ranges. There’s very little land buffering the town from the water here. Capital Painting Services works right across Paekakariki, from homes close to the beach to properties further up toward the hills, and we treat each one according to what it actually faces.
Paekakariki is the southernmost town on the Kapiti Coast, just north of Pukerua Bay. State Highway 1 and the main trunk railway line both run through this same narrow gap between the sea and the ranges. That tight coastal squeeze means homes here get less shelter than almost anywhere else in the wider region, and it shapes every job we take on in this town.
Here’s how we can help with your Paekakariki home, whatever the job:
Interior Painting Paekakariki
A lot of Paekakariki’s housing dates back to the 1950s, making it one of the older housing stocks along this stretch of coast. Interior surfaces from this period have typically been painted over many times since. Our interior painting service in Paekakariki covers walls, ceilings, doors, and trim, with prep adjusted to suit whatever’s built up underneath.
As experienced interior painters in Paekakariki, we cover your furniture and flooring properly before we start work. We clean up at the end of each day, so the job stays manageable, and your home stays livable throughout. For a full breakdown of what’s involved, our dedicated interior painting page goes into more detail.

Exterior Painting Paekakariki
Homes in Paekakariki sit closer to the open coast than in most nearby suburbs, with little land in between to soften the wind and salt. That direct exposure wears down a standard exterior finish much faster than it would inland. Our exterior painting service uses coatings designed to hold up to these kinds of conditions, particularly important given the town’s older 1950s housing stock.
As experienced exterior painters in Paekakariki, we start every job with a thorough wash and proper surface prep. Weathered or salt-affected areas get treated before any new coat goes on. Properties right along The Parade or close to the beachfront often need this attention more regularly than homes set back a street or two.
Interior Plastering Paekakariki
Paekakariki’s older homes have had seven decades or more to settle since the town’s main building period through the 1950s. Cracking around doorways, windows, and ceiling joins is common in housing this age. Our interior plastering service covers Gib stopping for newer work, skim coating for a smooth finish, and thorough crack repairs suited to older properties.
As experienced plasterers in Paekakariki, we identify the cause of a crack before we fix it, rather than simply covering it over. Whether the property is an original 1950s cottage or a more recent build, we treat plastering and painting as one connected job.

Exterior Coatings Paekakariki
Properties with monolithic or stucco cladding face added risk in a spot as exposed as Paekakariki. Cracks in the surface let moisture through quickly, and constant salt air makes that worse over time. Our exterior coatings service includes glaze coats, full paint systems, and weathertight membrane coatings for homes that need stronger protection.
As experienced exterior wall coating specialists in Paekakariki, we assess your cladding’s real condition before recommending a solution. A property right on the beachfront usually needs closer attention to moisture-related cracking than one set back closer to the hills.
Pressure Washing Paekakariki
Salt buildup happens quickly on homes in a town this exposed, especially along the beachfront and around The Parade. Our pressure washing service covers exterior walls, decks, fences, and garage doors, with the method matched to the surface rather than a single blanket approach.
As experienced house washers in Paekakariki, we know older weatherboard needs a gentler touch than newer render or concrete. This service is also the standard first step before any exterior painting or coating work, since paint won’t hold properly over salt residue or grime.

Mould Removal Paekakariki
Even in a windy, exposed town like Paekakariki, shaded or low-airflow corners of a property can still trap moisture. Our mould removal service treats walls, roofs, decks, and fences at the source, rather than just covering up the staining on the surface.
As experienced house painters in Paekakariki who also handle mould treatment, we know how much this matters before a repaint. Paint applied over mould that hasn’t been treated properly will fail early, regardless of how good it looks going on. If you’re unsure whether a patch needs attention, we’re happy to come and take a look.
Butynol Coating Paekakariki
Butynol has been a standard choice for flat roofs and decks across New Zealand for decades, and it’s still common on Paekakariki’s older properties. Our Butynol coating service protects the membrane against UV damage, using a product designed to flex with it rather than a general exterior paint.
As experienced roof painters in Paekakariki, we clean Butynol carefully rather than pressure washing it, then apply a coating matched to the membrane itself. With this level of coastal exposure, Butynol tends to wear faster here than it would further inland.

Roof Painting Paekakariki
A roof in Paekakariki faces near-constant wind, sun, and salt, given how close the town sits to open water. Our roof painting service covers metal, Colorsteel, decramastic tile, and concrete tile roofs, restoring the finish and building in proper protection against the elements.
As experienced roof painters, we always deal with rust properly before painting over it. Skipping that step just traps the problem under the new coat. Given the town’s older housing stock, roofs here often need attention sooner than newer homes elsewhere in the region.

What to Know About Painting Paekakariki Homes
Paekakariki is the southernmost town in the Kapiti Coast District, sitting on a narrow band of coastal plain squeezed between the Tasman Sea and the Akatarawa Ranges. The name comes from the Māori words for the perching place of the green parakeet. The postcode here is 5034. The area has a long history as a travel route between Wellington and the coastal lowlands to the north. Ngāti Toa established Wainui Pā near the mouth of the Wainui Stream in the 1820s, with a smaller Te Āti Awa pā called Paripari nearby.
After the Hutt Valley War in 1846, the 58th Regiment built the Paekākāriki Hill Road, which remained the main route north until 1939. A scheduled coach service began running over that hill road from 1865. Everything changed in 1886, when the railway reached Paekākāriki and turned the town into a major junction. Crews swapped over here before trains continued north, and the town grew up around that railway identity. Steam Incorporated still operates restored steam locomotives from the old rail yards today, and the original station building now houses a local museum.
That railway community also gave rise to the Paekākāriki Surf Lifesaving Club, founded in 1913 after a local railway worker drowned. It remains one of the oldest surf clubs in the country. Most of the town’s housing dates from the 1950s, meaning many properties have stood through seven decades of direct coastal weather. Paekakariki sits right up against Queen Elizabeth Park to the north, and unlike suburbs set back behind hills or a saddle, there’s very little land here to soften what comes in off the Tasman.
Coastal erosion is a genuine, ongoing issue in the area, and it’s part of why properties this close to the water need extra care and the right materials. Knowing the difference between a home right on the beachfront and one set back nearer the hills is what shapes how we approach every job in this town.
